A Table & Chair Set

designed and handcrafted in Wisconsin by Eric Wallner

This matched table and six chairs is inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian furnishings and mid-century modern's minimalist designs. The pieces have been featured in museum exhibits and recognized for their distinctive architectural character, the honest use of materials, and remarkable comfort. Well-padded chairs recline and support perfectly. Tabletop and seat proportions deftly depart traditional dimensions, giving effortless repose to tall and petite diners alike.

Meticulously handcrafted. Premium bridle leather cushions, polished stainless hardware, durable velvety wood finish. Resource-efficient, formaldehyde-free materials. Heirloom quality, signed and numbered by the designer-craftsman. Equally suitable for dining, studio, or office, to support living beautifully.

Eric Wallner lives and works from a homestead in the hilly Driftless Region of Wisconsin. His artistic and technical skills are intertwined and touch every aspect of his life and livelihood. Eric's work includes finish carpentry on an historic Frank Lloyd Wright home, a five-year interlude to build a passive solar home from ground up through decorative furnishings, and designing, building, and operating his own aircraft, telescopes, and camera. He occasionally exhibits his large format landscape photographs and guides visitors through the interiors and around the gardens of Taliesin, Wright's home in Wisconsin.

Testimonials

My dining set is satisfying in every way, from the silky smooth finish and artful shapes to the relaxed and lingering dinner conversations we have. There is a feeling of alertness and repose at the same time. Everyone remarks on their good posture! The surprising thing is the marriage of craft and utility—how the design takes a sheet of plywood and folds it like origami, wasting nothing. Edges are soft and shapes are layered. The fasteners too are utilitarian, left exposed in a purposeful and precise way.” — Amber W.

Our table and chairs are the center of life in our house.” — Elaine C.

We’ve had our table and chair set now for over a year. It’s located in my new studio and serves daily as my office desk. It’s a beautiful thing to behold and all who visit the studio remark upon it. I always ask them to try a seat, because they are unbelievably comfortable. When we have guests, we arrange the chairs around the wood stove, or in warm weather, by the open glass doors, for conversation seating.” — John H.

Visitors often ask us, ‘Where did you get this?’

Eric Wallner’s furniture designs transform simple wood materials into stunning works of art. His work pays homage to Frank Lloyd Wright, but are much more comfortable and practical, yet as striking as the master architect’s offerings. The meticulous attention to detail and well-conceived design will make his furniture family heirlooms.” — Claudia L.

Walking the perfect balance between design and function, Eric Wallner’s furniture hearkens to the understated Mid-Century Scandinavian designs of Hans Wegner and Borge Mogensen. A perfect fit for home or office, they also have the added attraction of using everyday materials with little to no manufacturing waste. Perfect green design.” — Anthony W.

I love the simple and minimalist design of the table and chair set. It’s a unique functional art piece right in my kitchen! The honey color of the wood adds a beautiful warmth to the room. Not to mention, the chairs are so very comfortable!” — Julia W.

Your furniture is as finished on the bottom as it is on the top.” — Bob Wallner
(A quote of my father’s, said while inspecting the underside of our home dining table. Though he never owned one of my table and chair sets, he used ours regularly. I include his offhand remark to emphasize an attention to detail many craftsman strive for — workmanship that holds to the same high standard even where no one is expected to look. — EJW)

A note on perfection with organic materials

Leather and wood are organic materials. Variations in color and grain are expected, indicate they’re the real deal, and add a distinct sense of quality. I expect you’ll appreciate the unique character of the wood and leather as much as I do, embracing its wabi-sabi nature — made more beautiful through natural variations and the character that comes with use. — EJW
