Production

The Wallner Table & Chair Set is built by hand in small production runs at a shop in southwest Wisconsin. This happens to be quite near Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and studio in Spring Green.

These images hint at the process and accuracy required to build a complete Table & Chair Set. The second image (below) shows enough chair parts for four sets — that’s 24 chairs. I think of his meticulous, repetitive production work as a form of meditation. I’m fond of this part of building furniture because progress is so tangible. The work is made more enjoyable by an eclectic mix of good music — from Beethoven to Zepplin, and NPR — to help time fly. — EJW
